Iskandar Jalil
Renowned Potter

Trained initially as a mathematics and science teacher, Iskandar Jalil taught for 40 years at various tertiary institutions and community centres until his retirement three years ago.

Iskandar started learning the craft of pottery in 1972 while he was studying ceramic engineering at the Tajimi Design/Research Centre in Japan on the Colombo Plan scholarship. Under the same scholarship, he also studied textile weaving and spinning in India.

For his artistic talent, Iskandar has been garnered with numerous awards, including the prestigious Singapore Cultural Medallion for Visual Arts. His works have been exhibited worldwide, spanning Singapore, Taiwan, Sweden, Hong Kong, Malaysia and Japan.

Today, Iskandar is a Resource Member, Adviser and Member of the National Arts Council of Singapore.
