Yeo Clare Yeo is a twelve-year-old pianist who currently resides in New York City, USA. Her talents as pianist have brought her numerous awards. Recently she was a winner of the Gina Bachauer Scholarship Piano Competition at The Juilliard School and was awarded the full scholoarship to the Pre-College Division. The recipient of The HSBC Youth Excellence Award 2004, Clare is also the youngest recipient in year 2003 at the Singapore National Arts Council Scholarship and Bursary Ceremony, Clare received the Gifted Young Musicians Bursary. In the Spring of 2004, Clare made history not just by being the first Singaporean to win the Gina Bachauer Scholarship Piano Competition at one of the world's top music schools, The Juilliard, but also the youngest winner of this important competition. She is also the 1 st prize winner of The 7 th New York Music Competition 2004, the first Singaporean ever topped the category C in that competition. She began studying the piano at age six. At age 8, she caught the attention of world-renowned master pianist Tedd Joselson and was under his tutelage for 2 and a half years before she moved to New York. In May 2003, Clare made Singapore proud by being the youngest Singaporean ever to be accepted and also awarded a scholarship to study at the prestigious Juilliard School in New York, USA. Competing among 312 musicians from all over the world, she is one of only 5 pianist who was awarded scholarship from The Juilliard School. She is now a student of International performer and pedagogue Ms Victoria Mushkatkol at The Juilliard School, Pre-College Division. She also studied under Mr. Albert Tiu in the summer during her stay in Singapore. At the age of 9. She gave her debut solo recital and her album "Journey Through Music with Clare" was released the same day. After Clare's stupendous debut recital, she quickly established herself as Singapore's young priestess of the piano. At her two sold-out concerts, Clare proved that her abilities were far beyond her age. Mediacorp Press wrote" Clare--a prodigy who hears the music in her heart and deserved the standing ovations which were accorded her following the performances." Since then, she has been invited to perform on numerous occasions. For a delightful change of pace. Clare was invited to perform at Richard Clayderman's sell out concert at The Singapore Indoor Stadium, June 2002. She dazzled an audience of 6000 with "miracle interpretations" of Clayderman's signature piece -Ballade Pour Adeline. In September 2002, 10 year old Clare made her debut performance with the Orchestra performing a full Mozart Concerto. She stunned her full house audience at the Victoria Concert Hall with a performance that had both the musicians and the general public clammering for extras. And she wrote her own Cadenza for this concerto. Clare has given performances in New York including performances at Carnegie Hall, Paul Recital Hall, Morse Hall at The Juilliard, Jazz at Lincoln Center, The Hudson Theatre, The Union Club and at venues throughout Singapore. |
